In our experience the Gentle Leader is almost like 'flicking a switch'. Designed to work on your dogs acupressure points, the Gentle Leader puts pressure on the muzzle and scruff significantly reducing your dogs pull.

It is highly advisable to allow your dog to get used the Gentle Leader over a period of time. We suggest that you put the Gentle Leader on for short periods initially, to allow your dog to get used to the feeling. You should use tasty treats to make it a fun experience and never get angry or frustrated if your dog tries to pull away from you. Get your dogs attention with the treat and calmly place the Gentle Leader over the muzzle and then fasten at the scruff.

Over a couple of days allow your dog to wear the Gentle Leader at home only, after a few sessions, attach the lead and walk your dog a little way around your house and garden, and when you feel confident that your dog is happy, you can walk your dog outside.

When using the Gentle Leader it is important to put your 'walking to heel' command in place, as the Gentle Leader is not a cure, it is merely a means to an end, it will help you to set the command, so a lot of use of the command is vital to ensure your dog understands what it is you are asking.
